Ahmedabad June 15 2023: Cyclone BIPARJOY will make landfall near Jakho port in Kutch district of the Indian state of Gujarat on Thursday. Coastal districts of the state are likely to experience heavy rainfall and wind speed may increase from 120-130 kmph to 150 kmph.
The Indian Meteorological Department has declared an emergency in Saurashtra and Kutch districts. The India Meteorological Department says that Biparjoy is a severe storm and is likely to damage roads, railway lines, crops and houses.
According to Indian officials, power and communication systems may also be disrupted due to strong winds and heavy rains. Heavy rain warning has been given in Kutch, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi and Junagadh areas of Gujarat state.
A statement issued by the Indian Prime Minister’s Office said that the Union Home Ministry is monitoring the situation 24 hours a day. According to officials, NDRF has deployed 12 teams to deal with any emergency situation while 15 teams have been instructed to be ready.
The Indian Coast Guard and Navy have deployed ships and helicopters for rescue operations. Army Air Force and Engineer Task Force units are on alert with boats and rescue equipment.
