Islamabad July 18 2024: Pakistan imported USD 1.9 billion worth of mobile phones in fiscal year 2024, accounting for 63 percent of the last IMF program loan amount.
In June 2024, mobile phone imports reached an all-time high of USD 279 million, bringing the total imports for Fiscal year 2024 to USD 1.9 billion, which represents 63 percent of the last IMF loan completed and 27 percent of IMF loan the country secured last week. This marks the second highest yearly import figure, following Fiscal Year 2021 imports of USD 2.1 billion.
Last week, IMF staff and the Pakistani authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on a 37-month Extended Fund Facility Arrangement (EFF) of about USD7 billion.
