Islamabad December 21 2021: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said all economic indicators show positive trajectory and economic stability due to the prudent polices of the government.

He was briefing the media about the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting, which met in Islamabad today (Tuesday) with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair.

The Minister said that wealth creation is improving in the country, while textile, Information Technology, agriculture and other sectors are performing well.

Dilating upon the detail, he said collection of direct taxes has shown surge of 31 percent. He said all the crops gave record production resulting into the additional income of 1,100 billion rupees to farmers.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said cotton recorded an increase of 19.5 percent, rice 4.8 percent, and sugarcane 8.7 percent. He said Pakistan is producing 2,40,000 cars, while the government is working on taking this target to half million vehicles. He said banks have provided 338 billion rupees for car financing, which shows growing purchasing power of the people. He said consumption of electricity and diesel grew by 13 percent and 26 percent respectively.

Talking about the increase in current expenditure, the Minister said this was because of the expenses incurred on procurement of anti-Covid vaccine and payment of 134 billion rupees to Independent Power Producers.

Highlighting Prime Minister Imran Khan's vision of bringing transparency to the election process in Pakistan, the

Minister said the government will provide all possible resources to the Election Commission of Pakistan for the procurement of Electronic Voting Machines.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the cabinet also approved amendment in the Election Act 2017 to make Senate vote traceable to prevent horse-trading in the Senate elections.
