Electricity shortfall reaches 1,500MW as temperature rises

Hydel power plants producing 3,300 MW less from their potential

Islamabad June 09 2021: Country is facing a shortfall of 1,500 MW as system electricity requirement rises to 24,100 MW against production of 22,600, as per Ministry of Energy.

IPPs Received First Tranche Of Circular Debt


Ministry of Energy, explained this shortfall could not be met at present due to lower electricity generation from Tarbella and Mangla. At present, both units are producing 3,300 MW lower than their potential and Ministry of Energy expects this generation to come online as water flow improves.

As per IRSA, current water level at Tarbella and Mangla recorded 41 ft SPD and 62 ft SPD higher from their dead levels.
