According to the data released by All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA), local cement despatches in the month of July 2021 were 3.446 million tons showing a substantial decrease of 12.8 percent compared to 3.953 million tons in July 2020. Exports also dropped significantly by 48.9 percent, to 452,776 tons in July 2021 from 885,255 tons in July 2020.

During July 2021, the cement mills in North despatched 2.892 million tons cement to local markets against 3.435 million tons in July 2020 registering a decline of 15.81 percent. South based mills despatched 554,442 tons cement in domestic markets which was 7.07 percent lower than 517,850 tons cement despatched in July 2020.

Exports from North based mills registered an enormous increase of 10.42 percent as the volumes increased from 122,823 tons in July 2020 to 135,618 tons in July 2021. Exports from South decreased by a substantial 58.4 percent to 317,159 tons in July 2021 from 762,432 tons during the same month last year.

A spokesman of APCMA expressed concerns about the slide in demand. He was, however, quite hopeful that cement industry will regain its growth momentum in the coming months mainly due to pro government policies related to construction sector.
