Islamabad, February 02, 2022: Country’s trade deficit decreased to USD 3.362 billion for the month of January 2022 as per data published by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Imports during January 2022 decreased to USD 5.908 billion as compared to USD 7.568 billion in December 2021. This is a decrease of more than USD 1.5 billion.
Turning to exports, PBS shared that during January 2022, Flag of Pakistan Pakistan’s exports decreased by 7.9 percent to USD 2.546 billion as compared to USD 2.764 billion in Dec 2021 mainly due to lower production of goods.
Production activity remained slow during the month of December 2021 and January 2022 mainly due to shortage of gas as indicated by All Pakistan Textile Mills Association.
As a result, trade deficit recorded at USD 3.362 billion for the month of December which is more than USD 1.5 billion lower when compared with numbers of previous month.
During the first seven months of the current Fiscal Year (July 2021-January 2022), imports increased by 58.8 percent to USD 46.471 billion as compared to USD 29.257 billion during July 2021- Jan 2022.
During the first seven months of the current Fiscal Year (July 2021-January 2022), exports increased by 23.4 percent to USD 17.671 billion as compared to USD 14.225 billion during July 2021- Jan 2022.
