Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa said that since no punishment is prescribed in Section 621F, it cannot be read alone. After this decision of the Supreme Court, the legal points raised regarding the lifelong disqualification of the former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and the chairman of the Stabilization Pakistan Party, Jahangir Tareen, practically ended after this decision.
These two leaders have submitted their nomination papers announcing their participation in the upcoming elections.
It should be noted that the former Parliament had fixed the maximum period of disqualification at five years by amending the Election Act 2017.
