Islamabad September 17 2022: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Russian President Putin in Uzbekistan, Russia has talked about providing not only oil and gas but also wheat.
He said that Russia made this offer in the context that Pakistan may face food shortage after the disaster due to floods.
It should be noted that Pakistan imports a large part of wheat from abroad for its domestic needs, while Ukraine and Russia are the largest exporters of wheat in the world.
Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, while fuel prices have increased globally, commodity prices have also increased.
Khawaja Asif said that Imran Khan used to say that he had written a letter about giving cheap oil to Pakistan, no one mentioned any such letter during the meeting with him at the meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
He said that the Russian authorities said that their gas pipelines are coming to Central Asia from where this gas can be delivered to Pakistan via Afghanistan.
Khawaja Asif claimed that Russian President Putin has praised Pakistan’s position on the issue of Ukraine in the United Nations.
