Lahore July 22, 2022: Punjab assembly members elected ruling party candidate Hamza Shahbaz as Chief Minister Punjab, the largest province of Pakistan.
The election of the Chief Minister of Punjab started after a delay of about three and a half hours.
Chaudary Shaujat, the president of PML Q which has 10 MPAs, last time’s decision not to support the candidate of Ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan tilted the situation in favor of the ruling party.
Chaudary Shaujat in a letter written to the Deputy Speaker copy of which is also sent to all PML-Q members directed his party members to cast their vote in favor of the Ruling Party candidate. Therefore, the deputy speaker rejected the votes of PML-Q members cast in favor of Pervaiz Elahi.
According to the voting results, PTI’s candidate Pervaiz Elahi got 186 votes while PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz got 179 votes but the rejection of votes tilted the results in favor of ruling party.
