Islamabad June 5 2022: The government has ordered a policy-making process to allow mobile phone users to block unwanted SMS.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said that the PTA would immediately review consumer privacy laws, adding that the privacy of consumers is a fundamental constitutional right of citizens and the government would not allow any violation of it.
It has been reported that Salman Sufi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Strategic Reforms, consulted the Chairman PTA regarding the protection of data of mobile phone users and unsolicited SMS sent by marketers.
Immediate policy making has been agreed to allow citizens to block unwanted SMS.
The Chairman PTA will brief the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit on the steps being taken in this regard today.
It has been informed that the proposed measures in this regard include that the user will be able to report to the company sending the message received without permission.
The user will have the right to refuse to send any message to any sending company which must be complied with by the company.
The company will be obliged not to give user data to any other company without its consent.
