Islamabad April 5 2025: Pakistan’s inflation recorded at 0.7 percent during March 2025 the lowest level since December 1965 due to cool down in food, motor fuel and electricity prices, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
CPI inflation General, decreased to 0.7 percent on year-on-year basis in March 2025 as compared to 1.5 percent of the previous month and 20.7 percent in March 2024. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.9 percent in March 2025 as compared to a decrease of 0.8 percent in the previous month and an increase of 1.7 percent in March 2024.
The decline is led by drop in food prices of Onions (71.15 percent), Tomatoes (53.77 percent), Wheat (34.53 percent), Wheat Flour (34.52 percent), Fresh Vegetables (31.36 percent), Tea (17.13 percent), Pulse Mash (15.41 percent), Wheat Products (12.51 percent), Pulse Masoor (12.39 percent), Potatoes (7.40 percent) and Rice (5.75 percent).
The prices of Electricity Charges (21.65 percent), Motor Fuel (7.01 percent) and Liquified Hydrocarbons (3.77 percent) also decreased on year on year basis.
Inflation in urban areas, decreased to 1.2 percent on year-on-year basis in March 2025 as compared to 1.8 percent of the previous month and 21.9 percent in March 2024. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.8 percent in March 2025 as compared to a decrease of 0.7 percent in the previous and an increase of 1.4 percent in March 2024.
Inflation in Rural areas, showing no change on year-on-year basis in March 2025 as compared to 1.1 percent of the previous month and 19.0 percent in March 2024. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.1 percent in March 2025 as compared to a decrease of 1.1 percent in the previous month and an increase of 2.1 percent in March 2024
