Islamabad April 23 2024: Pakistan Rice exports surged by 83.37 percent during the initial three quarters of the current fiscal year, compared to the corresponding period last year.
From July to March 2023-24, the country exported over 4.550 million metric tons of rice, amounting to $2.930 billion, contrasting with 2.939 million metric tons valued at $1.598 billion during the same period the prior year, as per data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Basmati rice exports experienced a growth of 36.37 percent during this period, with over 545,220 metric tons exported, valued at $622.345 million, compared to 430,543 metric tons valued at $456.357 million in the previous year’s equivalent timeframe.
Throughout the first nine months of the current fiscal year, the nation generated $2.308 billion in revenue by exporting over 4.005 metric tons of other rice varieties, a significant increase from the 2.508 million metric tons valued at $1.114 billion in the same period last year.
Furthermore, food group exports escalated by 48.17 percent during the initial three quarters of the current fiscal year, reaching $5.651 billion, in contrast to $3.814 billion in the same period the previous year.
In March 2024, food group exports grew by 16.35 percent compared to March of the previous year, with food commodities valued at $685.025 million exported, compared to $588.759 million in March of the prior year.
Conversely, food group imports decreased by 14.23 percent during the reviewed period, declining from $7.333 billion in the initial three quarters of the previous fiscal year to $6.290 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
