Karachi June 1, 2022: Sales of petroleum products increase by 28 percent to 2.174 million tons during the month of May 2022 when compared with the sales of the same month last year, as per data of OCAC.
The significant increase in sales is recorded in anticipation of increase in petroleum product prices in order to meet IMF conditionality.
Sales of Motor Spirit (MS) during May 2022 increased by 9 percent to 0.79 million tons compared to 0.73 million tons during May 2021. On month on month basis, the sales of MS increased by 3 percent.
Sales of High Speed Diesel (HSD) during May 2022 increased by 12 percent to 0.85 million tons compared to 0.76 million tons during May 2021. However, on month on month basis, the sales of HSD decreased by 3 percent.
During the month of May 2022, sales of Furnace Oil increased 2.7 times to 0.46 million tons compared to sales of 0.17 million tons during May 2021. On month on month basis sales of Furnace oil remained flat.
During 11MFY22, the MS sales has been witnessed at 8.3 million tons compared to 7.4 million tons during same period last year. Sales of MS has increased by 11 percent during 11MFY22. The rise in sales is witnessed due to higher demand on the back of increased sales of auto mobiles in the country.
Same trend has been witnessed in the sale of High Speed Diesel (HSD), which were increased by 18 percent during 11MFY22 as the HSD sales has been witnessed at 8.2 million tons compared to 6.9 million tons during same period last year. Sales of HSD has increased by 18 percent during 11MFY22. The rise in sales is witnessed due to higher demand on the back of increased sales of auto mobiles and higher power generation on HSD.
Sales of Furnace oil (FO) also increased by 36 percent during 11MFY22, the FO sales has been witnessed at 3.6 million tons compared to 2.6 million tons during same period last year. Sales of FO has increased by 36 percent during 11MFY22. The rise in sales is witnessed due to higher power generation on FO.
