Islamabad May 13 2022: Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) production grew by 26.6 percent during the month of March 2022 as compared to the corresponding period of last year, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported Friday.
The LSMI Quantum Index Number (QIM) was recorded at 153.7 points during March 2022 against 121.4 points during March 2021, showing growth of 26.6 percent, according to latest PBS data.
The highest increase of 34.4 percent during March 2022 was witnessed in the indices monitored by the Ministry of Industries, followed by 21.0 percent increase in indices monitored by Provincial Board of Statistics (BOS) and 8.0 percent witnessed in the products monitored by the Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC).
On year-on-year basis (YoY), the LSM rose by 10.4 percent during July-March (2021-22) compared to the growth of July-March (2020-21), according to PBS latest data.
The major sectors that showed positive growth during March 2022 included Food (85.0%), Wood paper (32.6%), Automobile (25.8%), Pharmaceutical (12.6%), chemicals (17.1%), Fertilizer (16.9%), paper and board (11.6%), Iron and Steel (11.2%), Coke and Petroleum (8.1%), Computer, electronics and Optical products (6.0%), Textile (5.1%), Non-metallic mineral products (4.2%) and Rubber products (0.2%).
The sectors that witnessed negative growth included Machinery and Equipment (10.9%), Beverages (6.0%), Leather products (5.4%), Electrical Equipment (1.5%) and Tobacco (1.4%).
It is pertinent to mention here that the provisional QIM is being computed on the basis of the latest production data received from sources, including OCAC, Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP), and PBS.
