Karachi February 26 2022: Pakistan earned USD 190 million by providing different Information Technology (IT) services in various countries during the month of January 2023 the lowest since May 2022, according to data released by State Bank of Pakistan.
This shows a significant decline of 23 percent as compared to USD 246 million earned through provision of Telecommunication services during the previous month.
Overall, during the period from July 2022 to January 2023 the Information Technology exports increased by 2.4 percent to USD 1.52 billion when compared with exports of USD 1.48 billion during the corresponding period last year.
The export of telecommunication services also witnessed decrease of 34.5 percent as these went from USD 45.3 million to USD 29.7 million during the month of January 2023, the data revealed.
Among the telecommunication services, the export of call centre services decreased by 26.8 percent during the period as its exports decreased from USD 19.7 million to USD 14.4 million whereas the export of other telecommunication services decreased by 40.0 percent, from USD 25.7 million to USD 15.3 million during the month of January 2023, the SBP data revealed.
Among the computer services, the exports of software consultancy services witnessed decrease of 14.7 percent, from USD 73.5 million to USD 62.7 million while the exports of hardware consultancy services plunged by 93.5 percent from, USD 1.6 million to USD 0.1 million.
The export of computer software related services also decreased by 24.87 percent, from USD 62.9 million to USD 47.2 million whereas the exports of repair and maintenance services increase by 42 percent from December 2022.
In addition, the exports of other computer services decreased by 19.8 percent from USD 62.1 million to USD 49.7 million.
Meanwhile, the export of information services during the period under review increased by 7.7 percent from USD 0.39 million to USD 0.42 million.
Among the information services, the exports of news agency services increased by 61.1 percent, from USD 0.1 million to USD 0.3 million whereas the exports of other information services decreased by 42.7 percent, from USD 0.2 million to USD 0.1 million.
