Islamabad September 1 2022: Pakistan, CPI inflation General, increased by 27.3% on year-on-year basis in Aug 2022 which is a high of 47 years, as compared to an increase of 24.9 in the previous month and 8.4% in Aug 2021.
On month-on-month basis, it increased by 2.4% in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 4.3% in the previous month and an increase of 0.6% in Aug 2021.
Monsoon rains have caused devastating floods in Pakistan, leaving millions homeless, destroying buildings, bridges and roads and leaving vast swathes of the country under water.
Flash floods and landslides along the Indus and Kabul rivers have left more than 1,000 dead and 1,600 injured – with the southern districts of Balochistan and Sindh worst-affected.
CPI inflation Urban, increased by 26.2% on year-on-year basis in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 23.6% in the previous month and 8.3% in Aug 2021. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 2.6% in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 4.5% in the previous month and an increase of 0.5% in Aug 2021.
CPI inflation Rural, increased by 28.8% on year-on-year basis in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 26.9% in the previous month and 8.4% in Aug 2021. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 2.2% in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 4.2% in the previous month and an increase of 0.7% in Aug 2021.
SPI inflation on YoY increased by 34.0% in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 28.2% a month earlier and an increase of 15.9% in Aug 2021. On MoM basis, it increased by 5.2% in Aug 2022 as compared to increase of 7.3% a month earlier and an increase of 0.7% in Aug 2021.
WPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 41.2% in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 38.5% a month earlier and an increase of 17.1% in Aug 2021. WPI inflation on MoM basis increased by 3.1% in Aug 2022 as compared to an increase of 2.0% a month earlier and an increase of 1.2% in corresponding month i.e. Aug 2021.
Core inflation (NFNE) measured by non-food non-energy Urban increased by 13.8% on (YoY) basis in Aug, 2022 as compared to an increase of 12.0% in the previous month and 6.3% in Aug, 2021. On (MoM) basis, it increased by 1.8% in Aug, 2022 as compared to an increase of 1.2% in previous month, and an increase of 0.2% in corresponding month of last year i.e. Aug, 2021.
