As the per the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) the government’s domestic and external debts stood at PKR 40,279 billion as of October 2021 compared to PKR 35,505 billion as October 2020.
Despite the socio economic challenges post COVID-19, Pakistan’s Debt to GDP ratio has declined to 74.8 percent (PKR 40,279 billion) as of October 2021 compared to 84.5 percent (PKR 35,107 billion) as June 2020.
The external debt of the country has increased by 19.4 percent to PKR 13,811 billion as of October 2021. While in percent of GDP external debt has declined to 25.6 percent as of October 2021 compared to 28.5 percent in June 2020.
The central Govt. domestic debt increased by 10.6 percent to PKR 26,468 billion. In percent of GDP, domestic debt also declines to 49.1 percent compared to 56.0 percent back in June 2020.
