Islamabad August 7 2024: Pakistan cut Federal excise duty charged on international tickets of GCC countries for labour by 60 percent in a order issued today.
The Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to direct that the federal excise duty shall be levied and collected on fixed basis equal to PKR 5,000 per ticket in lieu of the amount from the passengers holding labour visa printed on their passports duly verified by the Protector of Emigrants (Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment) embarking on international journey from Pakistan to Gulf Co-operation Council Countries (GCC).
lATA and the airline industry showed disappointment over increase in Federal Excise Duty (FED) on air tickets for international travel from 1 July 2024 under the recent Budget announcement by the Pakistan authorities. In particular, the FED for economy and economy plus tickets has more than doubled to PKR 12,500.
