Karachi March 7 2023: As per the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the external debt of the federal government decreased to USD 77.20 billion, which is the lowest level since May 2022.
However, in rupee terms the government’s total debt stood at PKR 54,942 billion as of January 2023 as the which is the highest monthly increase due to PKR depreciation.
The domestic domestic debt stood increased to PKR 34,255 billion as of January 2023 posting an increase of 3.4 percent compared with PKR 33,116 billion as of December 2022.
Pakistan’s Debt to GDP ratio stands at 65 percent as of Dec 2022.
The external debt of the country has increased by 15.7 percent month on month to PKR 20,687 billion as of January 2023 compared with PKR 17,879 billion as of December 2022. In dollar terms country external debt reduced by USD 1.74 billion during the month of January 2023.
Also, the outstanding position of Naya Pakistan Certificates has increased to USD 50 million as of January 2023.
The country witnessed a net inflow of USD 2 million in Naya Pakistan Certificates during the month of January 2023.
