London October 16 2024: The famous University of Oxford has released the final list of 38 candidates for its new chancellor and it does not include the name of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.
The process of electing the new Chancellor of Oxford will begin on October 28.
Imran Khan’s advisor Zulfi Bukhari told BBC that the founder of Tehreek-e-Insaf was not selected as a candidate, saying it is a very disappointing news.
He said that ‘Imran Khan is a global voice and there is no reason why he should not be allowed to participate in this election.’ And that not selecting Imran Khan to participate in the Chancellor’s election is itself ‘a loss to Oxford University, which presents itself as a global trendsetter.’
The application submitted by the founder of Tehreek-e-Insaaf as a candidate for the chancellor election was on August 18, 2024, the last day of the deadline, which was announced by Imran Khan’s advisor Zulfi Bukhari on social media platform X.
Speaking to the BBC at that time, he said, ‘Why should Imran Khan not participate in these elections, this is a very prestigious position.’
He further said that ‘He (Imran Khan) has been the Chancellor of Bradford University in the past and he fulfilled this important responsibility with great integrity. So he is the most qualified person for this position. His cases are ending and if he wins the elections, he will personally take charge by December, God willing.’
According to information on Oxford University’s website, this was the first time that an ‘open application process’ was used to select a chancellor so that candidates from diverse backgrounds could come forward.
The university said that the Chancellor’s Election Committee screened all the applications against the criteria laid down in the university’s regulations, after which a final list of 38 candidates was released on October 16, out of which at least five candidates have submitted their The relationship with Pakistan has been shown.
