Lahore July 23 2022: In a ceremony held at Governor House Lahore, Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman administered the oath of office to Hamza Shehbaz.
Yesterday, Punjab assembly members elected ruling party candidate Hamza Shahbaz as Chief Minister Punjab, the largest province of Pakistan.
The election of the Chief Minister of Punjab started after a delay of about three and a half hours.
Chaudary Shaujat, the president of PML Q which has 10 MPAs, last minute decision not to support the candidate of Ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan tilted the situation in favor of the ruling party.
Chaudary Shaujat in a letter written to the Deputy Speaker copy of which is also sent to all PML-Q members directed his party members to cast their vote in favor of the Ruling Party candidate. Therefore, the deputy speaker rejected the votes of PML-Q members cast in favor of Pervaiz Elahi.
According to the voting results, PTI’s candidate Pervaiz Elahi got 186 votes while PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz got 179 votes but the rejection of votes tilted the results in favor of ruling party.
