Paris June 11 2023: Novak Djokovic wins the French Open for a third time to make its 23rd Grand Slam title as he wins it with a straight-set victory, clinching the third set 7-5.
Djokovic becomes first man to win all four majors at least three times.
Djokovic instantly falls flat on his back on the Roland Garros clay when everyone else jumps in the air. The Serb clambers to his feet, clay plastered all over his back, to commiserate Ruud.
First it was Roger Federer, then it was Rafael Nadal, now it is Novak Djokovic who, with a straight-sets victory in the French Open final against Casper Ruud, set a new men’s record for the most grand slam titles with his 23rd win.
“Many congrats on this amazing achievement @DjokerNole 23 is a number that just a few years back was impossible to think about, and you made it Enjoy it with your family and team!” says Rafael Nadal, who has 22 Grand Slam titles.
One more record to achieve as this is Novak Djokovic’ 94th tournament victory at ATP level, equalling Ivan Lendl for the third-most in the Open Era but way short of record wins of 109 by American Jimmy Connors.
