Islamabad February 27 2023: Four judges in the nine-member bench in the Punjab and KP election Suo moto case in the Supreme Court have refused to be a part of the hearing of the case after consultation.
These judges include Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi, Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Athar Minullah.
On Monday, when the hearing of the suo motu began after a delay, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandyal said that four judges had decided to separate from the bench while the rest of the bench would continue to hear the case.
The Chief Justice said that the court will continue the hearing to interpret the constitution. He said that what the constitution says depends on interpretation.
He also said that the hearing will be started at 9:30 am on Tuesday and an attempt will be made to deal with the matter on the same day.
