Islamabad February 11 2024: The formation of the new government in the centre as a result of Pakistan’s recent polls is likely to be delayed due to the temporary suspension of results on 10 national assembly seats.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has temporarily suspended the results of 10 national assembly and 16 provincial assembly seats due to court-issued stay orders.
Among these seats are three national assembly seats where the PTI claimed victory through its independent candidates by significant margins.
Additionally, one of the stay orders pertains to a national assembly seat in Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which was contested by Nawaz Sharif.
As the polling result announcements by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) nears completion, three major stakeholders — PMLN, PPP and the PTI-backed Independents appear to be in the field to form the upcoming governments after the February-8 elections.
The process of consultations between major political parties intensified on Saturday, which was started by the PMLN on Friday, for the formation of federal and provincial governments.
Bilawal claimed no government could be formed in the Centre as well as two provinces — Punjab and Balochistan – without the support of his party.
It’s premature to determine who will form the government at the center, given that results for certain seats are still pending, and the affiliations of independent candidates are uncertain at this point, says PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
