Karachi October 18 2022: The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced that local elections in Karachi have been postponed again due to lack of security personnel.
In a statement of the Election Commission, it has been stated that the Sindh government has informed the commission that they have a shortage of 16 thousand 785 police personnel, so either the elections should be postponed or else 16 thousand 785 personnel from the army and rangers should be recruited to met the deficiency.
The Commission said that the Ministry of Interior has also told the Commission that Pakistan Army and Rangers cannot perform static duty at polling stations but can be available as a quick response force in case of any disturbance.
Therefore, according to the commission, the municipal elections are currently being postponed and their new date will be decided after 15 days in another meeting.
The Election Commission also decided that polling will be held on October 30 in constituency NA-45 of Karam district.
It may be noted that polling was not held in NA-45 in Sunday’s round of by-elections.
