Islamabad May 15 2022: Transport Group imports decreased by 13.3 percent during the month of April to $366.5 million when compared with import bill of $422.9 million in march 2022, according to data published by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The main reason behind the decline was significant jump in prices of Trucks, Busses, Motor Vehicles and Motor Cycles amid increase in Central Bank policy rate to 12.25 percent from 6.75 percent a year earlier.
Imports of Completely Build Up (CBUs) declined 25 percent in April to $45.0 million. Further breakup showed that the import of busses, trucks & Other heavy vehicles decreased by 22.9 percent to $26.5 million in April 2022 and motor cars CBUs imports fell the most by 30.6 percent to $18.0 million while motor cycles CBUs went up by 86.0 percent to 0.4 million in April 2022 when compared with previous months.
Imports of CKD dropped 23.4 percent in April to $185.6 million when compared with imports of March 2022. Further breakup showed that the import of busses, trucks & Other heavy vehicles decreased by 27.6 percent to $49.2 million in April 2022, Motor cars CKD imports fell the most by 23.0 percent to $130.0 million and motor cycles CKD imports declined 11.8 percent to 6.3 million in April 2022 when compared with previous months.
Parts and accessories imports followed the trend with decline of 15.0 percent to $42.3 million in April 2022.
