Islamabad May 19 2023: Based on the information provided by Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G), NEPRA is set to increase electricity prices by PKR 2.01 per unit for the month of April 2023 due to high fuel cost adjustment (FCA).
Based on the information provided by CPPA the actual fuel charges for the EX-WAPDA DISCOs for the month of April 2023 worked out to be PKR 10.3975 per unit which is PKR 2.01 per unit higher than reference tariff.
During the month, fuel cost increased by 0.04 percent year on year due to higher share of renewables and Nuclear due to lower generation of electricity. During the month, country generated 223 GWh of electricity on expensive RFO compared with 1,564 GWh generation in the same period last year. Electricity generation cost on RFO was PKR 23.14 in April 2023.
In April 2023, RLNG based power plants generated electricity at PKR 23.83 per unit, which is 45.1 percent higher when compared with last year. Electricity cost on coal decreases to PKR 12.27 per unit which is 14.4 percent higher when compared with the same period last year.
NEPRA has provided reference fuel price of PKR 8.3875 per unit as per decision of the Authority for EX-WAPDA DISCOs for the month of April 2023, as proposed by CPPA-G.
However, the final decision by NEPRA will be taken on May 31st after the hearing of all stakeholders.
