Islamabad July 21 2022: Based on the information provided by Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G), NEPRA is set to increase electricity prices by PKR 9.905 per unit for the month of June 2022 due to high fuel cost adjustment (FCA).
Based on the information provided by CPPA the actual fuel charges for the EX-WAPDA DISCOs for the month of June 2022 worked out to be PKR 15.8439 per unit which is PKR 9.9095 per unit higher than reference tariff.
During the month, fuel cost increased by 175.96 percent year on year due to in higher reliance on Residual Fuel Oil (RFO) and higher cost of generation on all fuels. During the month, country generated 1,454 GWh of electricity on RFO compared with 1,304 GWh generation in the same period last year. Electricity generation cost on RFO was PKR 36.2 which is nearly two and a half times in June 2022 when compared with the same period last year.
In June, RLNG based power plants generated electricity at PKR 28.38 per unit, which is 168 percent higher when compared with last year. Electricity cost on coal increases to PKR 20.81 per unit which is 156 percent higher when compared with the same period last year.
NEPRA has provided reference fuel price of PKR 5.9344 per unit as per decision of the Authority for EX-WAPDA DISCOs for the month of April 2022, as proposed by CPPA-G.
However, the final decision by NEPRA will be taken on July 28th after the hearing of all stakeholders.
