Dhaka August 6 2024: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers Association has requested to keep all garment factories closed.
Due to ongoing political instability and violence during protests in Bangladesh, industries have been shut down indefinitely. The organization said the plan to reopen them would be announced soon.
According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the ready-made garments industry accounts for 83 percent of Bangladesh’s total export earnings.
According to World Trade Organization data, Bangladesh is expected to export USD 38.4 billion (£29.7 billion) worth of clothing in 2023, making it the third-largest exporter of clothing after China and the European Union.
