Islamabad January 18 2022: Federal Minister Asad Omar gave a detailed briefing to the Cabinet on the spread of OMICRON Variant in the country. The number of current cases has increased to 5,000 per day, the hospitalization rate has increased by 2.5 times and the ICU rate by 30%.
Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired Federal Cabinet Meeting at Islamabad. Cabinet calls for ensuring implementation of SOPS, use of mask and vaccination to prevent the spread of Omicron.
However, the Cabinet reiterated its commitment that the government would refrain from taking steps that would harm business and economic activity.
During the last 24 hours, 53,253 tests were conducted out of which 5,034 patients has detected with COVID-19 virus. Total number of patients that are in critical stage rose to 827 with addition of 46 in last 24 hours. 10 deaths were reported due to COVID-19 taking the total death toll to 29,029.
