Islamabad June 20 2023: Based on the information provided by Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G), NEPRA is set to increase electricity prices by PKR 2.0536 per unit for the month of May 2023 due to high fuel cost adjustment (FCA).
Based on the information provided by CPPA the actual fuel charges for the EX-WAPDA DISCOs for the month of May 2023 worked out to be PKR 9.8817 per unit which is PKR 2.05 per unit higher than reference tariff.
During the month, fuel cost decreased by 26.1 percent year on year due to higher share of Hydel and renewables in generation of electricity along with lower generation on Furnace oil. During the month, country generated 241 GWh of electricity on expensive RFO compared with 1,290 GWh generation in the same period last year. Electricity generation cost on RFO was PKR 23.24 in May 2023.
Electricity generation cost on coal decreased by 41.6 percent in May 2023
In May 2023, RLNG based power plants generated electricity at PKR 24.46 per unit, which is 12.4 percent lower when compared with last year. Electricity cost on coal decreases to PKR 10.53 per unit which is 41.6 percent lower when compared with the same period last year.
However, NEPRA has provided reference fuel price of PKR 7.821 per unit as per decision of the Authority for EX-WAPDA DISCOs for the month of May 2023, as proposed by CPPA-G.
However, the final decision by NEPRA will be taken on July 5th after the hearing of all stakeholders.
