Islamabad October 11 2022: The Election Commission has rejected the request of the Federal Interior Ministry to postpone the by-elections and announced that the by-elections of the national and provincial constituencies will be held on October 16.
A meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner in which it was decided that the by-elections of the national and provincial constituencies will be held on October 16.
It should be noted that Imran Khan is contesting elections from nine seats in the National Assembly.
The Election Commission says that NA-45 district election will not be held on October 16.
Regarding the local body elections in Karachi, the Election Commission says that the local body elections will be held on October 23 in all the districts of Karachi Division.
It should be noted that the Election Commission had announced that polling in the by-elections for nine seats of the National Assembly and three seats of the Punjab Assembly would be held on October 16. It was decided that the by-elections should be postponed for 90 days.
On the other hand, the Sindh government also wrote a letter to the Election Commission and expressed its inability to hold the local body elections, but the Election Commission rejected the request of the Sindh government to postpone the local body elections in Karachi.
The Election Commission has emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct of by-elections and local body elections in Karachi Division.
The Secretary Election Commission while briefing the meeting said that the Election Commission has completed all the arrangements for the second phase of local body elections in nine National Assembly, three Provincial Assembly and all the districts of Karachi Division and is ready to hold the election.
