Tehran May 20 2024: The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei today appointed Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as interim president following the death of Ebrahim Raeisi in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran.
“In accordance with Article 131 of the constitution, Mokhber is in charge of leading the executive branch,” said Khamenei in a statement, adding that Mokhber will be required to work with the heads of legislative and judicial to prepare for presidential elections “within a maximum period of 50 days”.
Iran’s Cabinet appointed on Monday Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani as acting foreign minister following the death of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the crash.
