Prices of kitchen items increased by 1.53 percent in a first week of Ramadan: PBS

Islamabad April 8 2022: The SPI for the current week ended on 07th April, 2022 recorded an increase of 1.53 percent, according to data published by PBS.

Increase observed in the prices of food items Tomatoes (52.75 percent), Onions (27.34 percent), Bananas (12.24 percent), Garlic (2.80 percent), Beef (2.74 percent), Mutton (2.70 percent), Cooking Oil 5 litre (2.29 percent), Salt Powdered (1.70 percent) and Vegetable Ghee 1 kg (1.35 percent), non-food item, LPG (2.14 percent) is observed with joint impact of (1.59 percent) into the overall SPI for combined group of (1.53 percent).

On the other hand, decrease observed in the prices of Chillies Powdered (3.29 percent), Chicken (2.92 percent), Potatoes (0.91 percent), Wheat Flour (0.68 percent), Gur (0.54 percent), Pulse Mash (0.33 percent), Sugar (0.09 percent) and Pulse Moong (0.01 percent).

iii. During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 22 (43.14 percent) items increased, 08 (15.68 percent) items decreased and 21 (41.18 percent) items remained stable.

The year on year trend depicts an increase of 17.87 percent, Tomatoes (223.16 percent), Onions (82.21 percent), LPG (79.21 percent), Garlic (76.45 percent), Cooking Oil 5 litre (57.86 percent), Vegetable Ghee 2.5 Kg (57.67 percent), Mustard Oil (57.55 percent), Vegetable Ghee 1 Kg (56.88 percent), Washing Soap (39.60 percent), Pulse Masoor (38.47 percent), Petrol (35.25 percent), Bananas (28.07 percent) and Diesel (27.00 percent). while major decrease observed in the prices of Chillies Powdered (39.50 percent),
Pulse Moong (28.61 percent), Eggs (22.39 percent), Potatoes (13.38 percent) and Sugar (11.45 percent).
