Islamabad May 30, 2022: President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi, has approved the appointment of Mr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman as the Governor of Punjab.

He gave the approval on the advice of the Prime Minister in terms of Article 48 (1) read with Article 101 (1) and Article 101 (5) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The move comes after the president twice denied his ascent to the prime minister's nominees for the post, saying that Omar Sarfraz Cheema, who was de-notified by the federal government earlier this month, still held the office of Punjab governor as he was was (president) had not okayed his removal.

Rehman was elected to the National Assembly in 2013 and has previously served as the federal education minister.

Rehman's predecessor, PTI's Omar Sarfraz Cheema, was removed from office on May 9, despite the president's resistance.
