Pakistan’s Manufacturing Activity Turned Positive After Five Months in March, Led by Sugar and Wheat Milling

Islamabad May 15 2025: Pakistan LSMI output increased by 1.79 percent for March 2025 when compared with March 2024 and decreased by 4.64 percent when compared with February 2025, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics today.

Food segment reported robust growth of 20.01 percent during the month of March on year on year basis due to 67.16 percent growth in the output of Sugar to 780,857 tons and 8.07 percent growth in wheat milling to 908,566 tons.

Overall Large Scale Manufacturing Sector has shown a growth of -1.47 percent during July March 2024-25 when compared with the same period of last year.

The overall decline of 1.47 percent in the manufacturing sector was primarily driven by contractions in several key industries. The most significant negative contributions came from furniture (-1.94 percent), non-metallic mineral products (-0.68 percent), iron and steel products (-0.51 percent), electrical equipment (-0.47 percent), chemicals (-0.45 percent), cement (-0.37 percent), machinery and equipment (-0.17 percent), and food (-0.09 percent). On the other hand, some sectors posted positive growth, including garments (1.14 percent), automobiles (0.68 percent), textiles (0.35 percent), petroleum products (0.30 percent), tobacco (0.17 percent), other transport equipment (0.14 percent), and pharmaceuticals (0.13 percent).
