Islamabad February 3 2025: CPI inflation General, decreased to 2.4% on year-on-year basis in January 2025, the slowest pace since October 2015, as compared to 4.1% in the previous month and 28.3% in January 2024.
On month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.2% in January 2025 as compared to 0.1% in the previous month and an increase of 1.8% in January 2024.
On a year-over-year basis, the most significant price decline was observed in onions, which dropped by 41.69%, followed by wheat with a decrease of 34.34% and wheat flour down by 33.76%. Eggs also experienced a notable reduction of 28.43%, while fresh vegetables saw a decline of 18.75%.
Electricity charges fell by 15.6%, and wheat products decreased by 10.97%. Prices of tomatoes dropped by 10.54%, pulse masoor by 9.80%, and pulse mash by 9.34%. Tea prices declined by 8.04%, while rice and sugar saw reductions of 5.14% and 2.62%, respectively. Additionally, motor fuel prices decreased by 2.48%, and communication apparatus experienced the smallest decline at 1.19%. This trend highlights a broad-based reduction in prices across various food items, utilities, and essential commodities.
Inflation in Urban areas, decreased to 2.7% on year-on-year basis in January 2025 as compared to 4.4% in the previous month and 30.2% in January 2024. On month-on-month basis, it increased to 0.2% in January 2025 as compared to a negative change of 0.1% in the previous month and an increase of 1.8% in January 2024.
Inflation in Rural areas, decreased to 1.9% on year-on-year basis in January 2025 as compared to 3.6% in the previous month and 25.7% in January 2024. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.2% in January 2025 as compared to 0.3% in the previous month and an increase of 1.9% in January 2024.
