Islamabad June 5 2025: Pakistan’s trade deficit narrowed 23.47 percent to USD 2.619 billion in May 2025 as exports recovered by 17.43 percent and imports shrinks 7.58 percent according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), exports in May stood at USD 2.553 billion, up 17.43 percent from April 2025 and 10.07 percent lower year-on-year. On the other hand, imports decreased to USD 5.172 billion, down 7.58 percent month-on-month and rose 5.23 percent higher compared to May 2024.
As a result, the monthly trade deficit narrowed to USD 2.619 billion, a decrease of 23.40 percent over the previous month and increase by 26.16 percent year-on-year.
Over the first eleven months of the fiscal year (July 2024 to May 2025), exports totaled USD 29.445 billion, showing a modest 4.72 percent growth from USD 28.117 billion in the same period last year. However, imports during this period jumped to USD 53.450 billion, up 7.30 percent from USD 49.815 billion.
The cumulative trade deficit for July–May 2024–25 reached USD 24.005 billion, widening by 10.63 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
