Karachi August 31 2022: Pakistan Largest Rebar Manufacturer, Amreli Steels Limited, has decided to shut down its plants for twenty days owing to low demand of steel rebars in the country due to unprecedented monsoon rains and flash floods witnessed across the country.
Consequently, no manufacturing will take place from 31 August to 19 September 2022. The resumption of operations or further extension in production suspension (as the case may be) will be communicated accordingly.
Torrential rains and flooding have submerged a third of Pakistan and killed more than 1,100 people, including 380 children as the United Nations appealed for aid on Tuesday for what it described as an "unprecedented climate catastrophe."
The country has received nearly 190% more rain than the 30-year average in the quarter through August this year, totalling 390.7 millimetres (15.38 inches). Sindh province, with a population of 50 million, was hardest hit, getting 466% more rain than the 30-year average.
Amreli Steels Limited was incorporated in 1984 as a private limited company and converted into a public unquoted company in 2009. The Company is mainly engaged in manufacture and sale of steel bars and billets.
