Pakistan Inflation Make a New High of 36.4% In April as Food Prices Continue to Soar

Pakistan Household Inflation Decrease by 0.57% in a Week

Islamabad May 2 2023: Pakistan Consumer Price Index (CPI inflation General), increased to 36.4% on year-on-year basis in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 35.4% in the previous month and 13.4% in April 2022, reported by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

On month-on-month basis, it increased to 2.4% in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 3.7% in the previous month and an increase of 1.6% in April 2022.

CPI inflation Urban, increased to 33.5% on year-on-year basis in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 33.0% in the previous month and 12.2% in April 2022. On month-on-month basis, it increased to 2.0% in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 3.9% in the previous month and an increase of 1.6% in April 2022.

CPI inflation Rural, increased to 40.7% on year-on-year basis in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 38.9% in the previous month and 15.1% in April 2022. On month-on-month basis, it increased to 3.0% in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 3.5% in the previous month and an increase of 1.6% in April 2022.

SPI inflation on YoY increased to 42.1% in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 40.4% a month earlier and 14.2% in April 2022. On MoM basis, it increased by 2.7% in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 5.8% a month earlier and an increase of 1.5% in April 2022.

WPI inflation on YoY basis increased to 32.8% in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 37.5% a month earlier and an increase of 28.1% in April 2022. On MoM basis, it decreased by 0.4% in April 2023 as compared to an increase of 4.7% a month earlier and an increase of 3.2% in corresponding month of last year i.e. Apr 2022.

Urban Areas

In food items, year on year basis prices of Cigarettes (159.89%), Tea (108.76%), Wheat Flour (106.7%), Wheat (103.52%), Eggs (100.88%), Rice (87.86%), Potatoes (76.87%), Pulse Moong (57.19%), Pulse Mash (56.38%), Gram Whole (55.55%), Onions (51.87%), Besan (51.17%), Dry Fruits (49.06%), Pulse Gram (48.41%), Beans (47.45%), Chicken (43.13%), Bakery and Confectionary (42.5%) and Sugar (42.14%) were increased while prices of Tomatoes (47.6%) decreased.

While in non-food items, year on year basis prices of text books (106.83%), stationery (83.73%), Motor fuel (75.43%), Gas charges (62.82%), Washing soap/detergents/match box (60.41%), Personal Effects n.e.c. (44.81%), Motor vehicle accessories (42.56%), Motor vehicles (41.51%), Household equipments (40.94%), Construcion input items (37.23%), Marriage Hall Charges (32.89%), Solid Fuel (31.96%), Personal Grooming Services (31.89%), Cotton Cloth (31.46%), Electricity Charges (30.84%), Plastic Products (30.59%), Transport Services (28.77%), Mechanical Services (25.02%), Cleaning and Laundring (24.28%), Doctor (MBBS) Clinic Fee (21.55%) and Tailoring (21.22%) were increased.

Rural Areas

In food items, prices of Cigarettes (137.72%), Wheat Flour (104.21%), Tea (100.3%), Wheat (95.28%), Eggs (95.2%), Potatoes (82.27%), Rice (81.85%), Pulse Mash (64.88%), Pulse Moong (63.01%), Onions (55.57%), Besan (55.44%), Gram Whole (55.15%), Fresh fruits (55.13%), Pulse Gram (50.68%), Chicken (48.56%),
Sugar (41.08%), Milk fresh (40.27%), Beans (38.39%), Beverages (35.92%) and Mustard oil (33.91%) were increased on year on year basis.

In non-food items prices of text Books (126.88%), Motor Fuels (80.5%), Personal Effects n.e.c. (53.57%), Washing Soaps, Detergents and Match Box (51.2%), Stationery (48.14%), Motor Vehicles Accessories (43.61) Transport Services (39.33%), Household Equipments (37.29%), Major Tools and Equipments (36.89), Construction Input Items (33.14%), Marriage Hall Charges (32%) and Electricity Charges (30.84) were increased on year on year basis.
