Islamabad November 29 2023: The Islamabad High Court has acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference case.
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court heard the appeal filed by the former prime minister today.
On the other hand, NAB withdrew the appeal against the acquittal of Nawaz Sharif in the flagship reference. The Islamabad High Court has dismissed NAB’s appeal on the grounds of withdrawal.
The NAB prosecutor told the court that the references were filed due to the Supreme Court’s decision, Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb addressed him and said, “You are saying that you were forced to file the reference.”
He said that we understand that filing the reference was a compulsion of NAB, Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb said that the reference was filed and the punishment was also done and NAB did not appeal against the decision of acquittal of Maryam Nawaz at that time. The prosecutor said that now that decision is final, we cannot argue on it.
The court inquired whether we should accept this appeal as well.
The NAB prosecutor said that we are withdrawing the appeal against the acquittal of Nawaz Sharif in the flagship reference as well.
