Coal prices reaches level of USD112 per ton last seen in 2011 on increased demand from China as its economy recovers from COVID in a time when it imposes ban on coal imports from Australia on diplomatic woes.

If the coal prices stays at these levels then it will put additional burden of more than USD500 million to our import bill.

Pakistan total coal requirement is estimated to be more than 15 million for the current year primarily on the basis of more than 4,000 Mega Watt coal based power generation and ~55 million ton production of cement that extensively used coal for their energy requirement. At current requirement coal import bill is expected to be more than USD1.1 billion.
