Dhaka August 30 2024: The interim government in Bangladesh headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has lifted the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday.
On August 28, the Ministry of Home Affairs of Bangladesh has issued a notification in this regard.
In the notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, it has been said that “Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, its student wing Islami Chhatra Shabir and other organizations associated with it have not been proven to have any connection with terrorism.”
According to the notification, the ban has also been lifted on Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islamic Chhatra Shabir and its other organizations.
It should be noted that in 2013, the High Court of Bangladesh revoked the registration of Jamaat-i-Islami and imposed a ban on it. Since then, the party has not been able to participate in the elections.
Last year, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh also upheld the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami from contesting elections.
Jamaat-e-Islami is considered to be the largest religious party in Bangladesh. He has millions of supporters across the country.
After the removal of the ban by the government, options have opened up for Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh politics and it will be able to play its role in the country’s elections.
